Philippe Vernier Philippe Vernier was essentially born into Baccarat. The son of a fournaliste, or crystal craftsman who worked with molten material, he grew up in the French city from which the maison takes its name and where its factory is based. Out of this glass-making milieu grew his métier: he became a crystal cutter and began to work at Baccarat in 1979. In 1997, he became a Meilleur Ouvrier de France. Since then, he has worked on the deeply beveled, octagonal Célimène vases and, more recently, on the red Harcourt Today, Vernier with Baccarat’s younger crystal cutters.
